PIAA members seek SGM to move no confidence motion in board

The industry peak body faces further turmoil as members seek s Special General Meeting

The appointment of a new president, deputy president and honorary secretary to the Printing Industries Association of Australia board has done little to quell the ire of the PIAA membership, particularly in Queensland.

In a letter to the board signed by Tom Eckersley of Print Approach, Brisbane, members are seeking a Special General Meeting to move a motion of ‘No Confidence' in the board’s ability to manage the affairs of the PIAA unless a series of demands are met by Friday, February 5.

The demands include:

  • CEO Jason Allen be paid out his period of notice and leave the PIAA immediately

  • The Association be placed in ‘çaretaker’ mode until a new CEO commences employment

  • Putting on hold any leasing or renting out of the Association’s state offices

  • The re-employment of Queensland state sales manager Mel Ireland on an on-going basis

  • The reinstatement of former employees Peter Mansfield (SA) and Ron Patterson (VIC)

  • The increase in board numbers from 9 to 12, with two board representatives each from NSW, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania

  • Any person who is to fill a casual vacancy on the board to be an owner, director or general manager of a member of the Association

With little chance of these demands being met in such an unrealistic time frame with regard to practicalities such as where the SGM would take place, number of members able to attend, and who would chair the meeting remaining unclear, the industry awaits the next instalment of this saga.
