Roland DG strengthens VersaUV line up with LEF-200

The new LEF-200 benchtop UV printer with Primer ink option

Roland DG has added the VersaUV LEF-200 to its line up of benchtop UV printers. Delivering advanced media compatibility and workflow efficiency, the LEF-200 features a new on-board Primer ink option which is also compatible with the LEF-300.

According to Greg Stone, product and marketing manager of Roland DG Australia, the LEF-200 was developed to offer outstanding print quality, greater media compatibility and ease of use for the personalisation and custom printing markets, which are characterised by small-lot production of numerous products. At 20 inches wide, the LEF-200 prints high-quality full-colour, White, Clear and Primer inks on a wide variety of materials including three-dimensional items up to 100mm thick.

“With the LEF-200,” Stone said, “you can print rich colour directly onto a wide range of personalised consumer products and promotional items such as smartphone cases, pens, awards, giftware, plates and more.” The new Primer ink option allows users to prep an object for customisation before printing a full-colour graphic. “This makes adding graphics to glass, plastics and other challenging media so much more clean and efficient,” he said. (It is strongly recommended to test the substrate for compatibility to ensure optimal print results as print quality or ink adhesion may vary depending on the substrate used.)

The LEF-200 incorporates Roland DG’s proprietary CYMK, White and Clear ECO-UV inks for premium quality printing. Clear ink can be printed for spot gloss or matte finishes, as well as unique embossing effects. White ink can be printed as a spot colour or as a flood behind CMYK on dark backgrounds or clear materials. To meet individual business requirements, users can choose from three ink configurations: CMYK+White+Primer, CMYK+White+Clear, and CMYK+White+White.

Usability enhancements have been added to the LEF-200 for greater efficiency. Roland VersaWorks Dual enables users to work not only with PostScript files, but also allows for native processing of PDF files to ensure transparency effects are processed accurately. In addition, white or clear ink data can be generated easily in the RIP, ideal for use in producing transparent personalised accessories with special effects.

“With the growing desire for personalisation that reflects individual preferences and lifestyles, the market for on-demand printing onto various articles is expected to expand still further in the future," Stone explained. "In recent years, we have seen an increasing number of businesses using our VersaUV LEF printers to provide custom printing of smartphone cases and accessories. With the LEF-200’s greater versatility for applications and usability, we continue to provide the best solutions to support custom print services providers both online and offline.”
