AIP to host seminar and training course at FoodTechPackTech

The last FoodTech Packtech attracted over 200 exhibitors

More than just an exhibition, Foodtech Packtech being held in Auckland September 23 – 25, features free development and business seminars over the three days of the show as well as the Plastics NZ Awards, a display of successful Pride In Print Awards winning entries and the internationally-renowned NZ Food Awards which will run alongside the show on Thursday, September 25.

The Australian Institute of Packaging will host one of the free seminars. On Thursday, September 25 at 10.00 am - 11.30 am, industry experts will debate ‘The State of Retail Ready Packaging’. This session is designed as a panel discussion so that attendees can learn from a broad range of experts. Panelists confirmed are Richard Manaton, general manager Strategy and Corporate Affairs, Countdown; Sarah Yanez, packaging development manager, Tasti Products Limited; Mat Bogust, cardboard engineer, Think Packaging; and Peter Snopko, packaging specialist, Packaging Resources & Development Ltd.

The Australian Institute of Packaging is also running a half day training course on ‘Labelling & Matching the Label with the Package’ designed to give a comprehensive guide to labelling and how to navigate through the myriad of options available for each style of packaging.

The course will provide attendees with an understanding of the types of adhesives and their properties, designed with specific selection criteria in mind, which is key to the selection of the right label. Permanent, removable, repositionable and wash-off adhesives and chemical composition of adhesives and approvals for use on foods/pharmaceuticals will be discussed.

This course will be beneficial to: Packaging technologists who are involved in designing and sourcing both primary brand labels and labels used throughout the supply chain of a product; Brand owners who need to be familiar with the key selection criteria for product labels that are compatible with a variety of container types, where the prime label is key to the product's identity; Designers wanting to become familiar with labelling options that can be tailored to specific product marketing campaigns; Process and production managers involved in automated product labelling applications.

Course presenter is Dr Carol Lawrence, Environment & Sustainability Specialist, UPM Raflatac Oceania. Her experience in the label industry spans over twenty years, starting with a technical role at Jac Australia that underpinned the selection of the most appropriate label material for the required application. This role was enhanced by a background in chemistry, including a PhD in polymer chemistry, gained in the UK.

The cost for the half-day course is AUD300 for AIP members; AUD350 for PAK NZ, NZIFST members; and AUD400 for non members.

Both events will take place within FoodTech PackTech in the seminar rooms at the ASB Showgrounds, 217 Greenlane West, Epsom, Auckland.
