KM staffer soars high for Project Futures

Steven Davis-Raiss' tandem skydive raised over $3,200

Project Futures is one of the charities supported by Konica Minolta and its employees through workplace giving and participating in fundraising activities. On November 12, Steven Davis-Raiss, regional general manager at Konica Minolta Business Solutions Australia, completed a tandem skydive over Wollongong raising over $3,200 for the charity.

Project Futures is dedicated to raising funds, educating and empowering people to end human trafficking and exploitation. It partners with service providers in the Asia Pacific region in three key areas – prevention, support services and empowerment.

One such initiative is the Salvation Army’s safe house, the only one of its kind in Australia, which provides supported accommodation for women who have been identified as victims of trafficking/modern day slavery. The safe house offers crisis and long term assistance 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Casework includes financial assistance, access to legal services, medical and mental health services, employment services, social support, personal development, recreational activities and living skills.

Another initiative supported by Project Futures is Child Wise, which has programs that reduce incidence and impact of child abuse and exploitation in Australia. Research provided by the Australian Institute of Family Studies estimates that one in four girls and one in seven boys are sexually abused in Australia. For the last two years it has supported the National Child Abuse Prevention Helpline, a toll free number that provides Australians with access to expert advice from trained counsellors and offers a platform to speak up about child abuse.

The Freedom Advocates Project is led by people who have survived human trafficking and/or slavery-like practices. It offers participants’ validation of their experience, empowers them to speak out to government bodies and to the wider community, and reaffirms their worth.

Support of Project Futures by Konica Minolta and its employees reaffirms the company’s philosophy to best serve and improve the quality of society in all its activities, and become a company that is vital to global society.
