DES leads Fogra 51 implementation

Spectrophotometers must now read in M0, 1, 2 and 3

At the end of September updates to ISO 12647-2: 2013 for printing on matte and glossy coated offset papers came into practice. DES, the largest provider of proofing solutions to the industry, is now set up to assist existing and new customers to manage this important change to their workflows.

Sales and marketing director Russell Cavenagh says: “Our proofing medias have recently been recertified to the Fogra 51 standard and both CGS and EFI have updated their Proofing Rips with the new standards.”

The updated certification includes added paper classifications for closer proof matching, new CIElab target values for primary solids, revised ICC-profiles and reference printing conditions as well as new curves for tone value increase. Part of the updates to ISO 12647-2: 2013 is new characterisation data (Fogra 51, Fogra 52) to allow for the OBA (optical brightening agents) content in the printing stocks.

There are also changes to measurement technology with spectrophotometer devices now requiring to be able to read in M0, 1, 2 and 3 instead of the old M0 standard. To help users manage the investment required to measure to the new standards, DES is offering a 20% off promotion on all new X-Rite spectrophotometers (that read in M0, 1, 2 and 3) between now and Christmas.
