AIP takes not one but two half-day training courses to NZ

The Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP) is heading to Auckland in late November to run not one, but two half-day training courses. The first course will be ‘Introduction to Plastics’ and will be held on Wednesday, November 25. The second course will be held on Thursday, November 26 will be ‘Introduction to Modified Atmosphere Packaging’. Presenter for both courses will be Pierre Pienaar.

The half-day training courses will be held at the Packaging Council of New Zealand Building 17E Greenmount Drive, East Tamaki,Auckland.

The half-day ‘Introduction to Plastics’ course will present a precise, non-mathematical introduction to plastics, their raw materials, syntheses, and applications, discussing the manufacture and properties of plastics as a function of the molecular properties of polymers used in the plastics industry. The course will cover the properties of the main classes of materials, as well as the principles of such processes as injection moulding, extrusion, blow moulding and thermoforming polymers. 

The half-day ‘What to expect from the Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP)’ course will cover MAP and its application to fruit, vegetables, meat and fish, followed by the functional attributes of MAP films. The important role of Active Packaging (antimicrobials, antioxidants etc.) including recent developments and future projections will be examined. Advances in polymeric films including sustainability together with the technical assessment and monitoring of Modified Atmosphere packs will be outlined.
