Photography magazine gets the right focus

Wayne Romminger of McCollams Print, Publications Category winner

The Pro Photographer Magazine June/July 2014 edition is as good as you can get as an ambassador for the New Zealand publications sector.

Printed and entered by McCollams Print of Auckland, the magazine was declared as “flawless” by Pride In Print judges who assessed it as the Publications Category Winner in a glittering Awards Evening held before a large audience at Wellington’s TSB Arena on May 1.

The combination of print quality, good design and attention to detail marked it as a leader in its class, demonstrating the power of print to ensure the photographer’s work is displayed to its maximum potential to its readership.

Judges said the glossy cover set a brilliant benchmark for customer appeal, jumping off the magazine rack. Senior judge Darren Gallot summarised the outstanding feature of the Pro Photographer Magazine as being the intensity of the colour.

“This is as good as it gets,” he said. “It’s the kind of thing that would catch the eye of a consumer browsing in the airport news stand.”

A two-word email from the client summed up the quality of the Pro Photographer Magazine entry, said McCollams’ Wayne Romminger. “It read simply: ‘Epic job’. That kind of feedback is so satisfying.”

McCollams used advanced screening technology to achieve the intense colour needed by the magazine publishers.

“All of this client’s work is done to the highest standard, yet we still have to work to a four-day turnaround for the printing. So to get this accolade means a lot.”
