Screen to show latest Truepress HD at Hunkeler Innovation Days

James Haisman - off to Switzerland

Dainippon Screen’s latest high-speed web-fed inkjet press, the Truepress Jet520HD, announced in late 2014, will be the centre piece of the Screen exhibit at this year’s Hunkeler Innovation Days. The biennial Hunkeler event has become the global defacto ‘must see’ event for the high volume digital web printing sector where partner companies marry their print engines to Hunkeler and Horizon paper handling solutions.

Screen Australia’s northern region sales manager James Haisman will attend the event being held at Messe Lucerne, Switzerland from February 23 to 26 to meet up with Australian and New Zealand customers.

What sets the new Truepress Jet 520HD apart in the inkjet web sector is sheer quality of image. The HD stands for High Definition and this has been achieved by fitting all-new printheads capable of up to 1200 x 1200 dpi, new wide-gamut high-density inks, new screening software, new paper transport and drying system and a new version of EQUIOS workflow software. A wider range of paper from 40gsm to 250gsm can be printed, some of these standard offset stocks.

Local Screen managing director Peter Scott comments: “We are very excited about the new 520HD model –it solves the issue that has kept many printers away from high volume inkjet for commercial work: image quality. Our standard Truepress 520 range has proved very successful in the transactional, book and newspaper markets but the HD version takes quality to a whole new level. As such it is not designed to take on the extreme high-speed machines but operates at a respectable 120 linear metres per minute at 600 x 600 dpi or 50 linear metres per minute at full 1200 x 1200 dpi resolution, across a 520mm wide web.”

The Truepress Jet520HD will print live alongside a standard Truepress Jet520, producing a variety of commercial print applications, including high-quality cookery books and short-run magazines. In addition, the Screen Truepress Jet520HD will be used to produce the complete set of Hunkeler brochures in five differentlanguages.  The commercial work will be saddle-stitched on the Screen stand while the cookery books will be perfect-bound on the Hunkeler/Horizon stand. The two presses combined will also print a ticketing application for the Hunkeler laser perforating line.

Screen will also show a redesigned version of its highly-regarded Jetinspection camera-based security system that is fully integrated into EQUIOS. Jetinspection undertakes real-time, full-pixel and full-colour comparison of the printed result to the RIP data, which gives a complete guarantee of content as well as providing the basis of an automated reprint workflow. For book printing, Screen’s Smart Book Solution is a new feature of EQUIOS that provides a sophisticated automated on-demand book printing workflow, from processing and imposition of files at input, through printing to book binding and finishing.

The first early adopter installations of the new Truepress Jet 520HD have already taken place in The Netherlands and Switzerland, with customers reporting very high satisfaction with the performance and quality. Additional orders have come from the USA and Japan.

“We believe it offers the best high-volume inkjet web quality currently available,” says Scott, “and we welcome the opportunity to demonstrate this to Australian and New Zealand customers.”
