Extra shift doubles production at LEP Melbourne

LEP Colour Printers is ramping up production at its print facility in Port Melbourne by running an extra shift each day to handle its rapidly growing workload.

Opened just four months ago, LEP Colour Printers’ Port Melbourne facility very quickly bedded down its installation of new equipment and reached peak production capability. Production processes have been running smoothly almost since day one of its operations.

So much so, that LEP has been inundated with print work from the company’s southern state customers, who have been so impressed by the print quality produced there and the short turnaround times that assist them to meet their own clients’ demanding deadlines.

The Port Melbourne facility will now operate two shifts daily, five days a week. The extra shift will effectively double its production output, with a sixth day each week used for general maintenance, cleaning and for overtime during busy periods. The company is now recruiting to fill positions needed for the extra shift.

LEP Colour Printers’ 1,500m2 print facility in Port Melbourne is a close duplication of the company’s facilities in Queensland, and uses the same print technology, including a Ryobi 925 press, Agfa process-free plates, Heidelberg, MBO, G&K and Osako bindery equipment.

John Bromfield, LEP Colour Printers’ CEO, said, “We’re thrilled that our new facility in Port Melbourne has been so readily accepted by our customers in the southern states. After just four months we are boosting our production hours to handle the volume of work they’re sending our way, as they take advantage of the turnaround times and faster freight handling the facility offers them.

“We are filling the new positions with experienced print professionals who are ready to provide the print quality our customers have always enjoyed from LEP. We’re very confident that our extra shift will enable us to provide even better service and faster turnarounds for all our customers,” he said.

As part of its ongoing commitment to continuous improvement, LEP installed fibre optic cable at its Port Melbourne site late last year, which has greatly improved real time communication and processing on site.

The company’s Queensland facility already runs three shifts daily, five days per week, and LEP’s easy-to-use online ordering shopfront is available 24/7 to all customers.
