Neschen wallpaper gets a good wrap for UTS makeover

Neschen digitally printed wall coverings at UTS Broadway

The former food court and Glasshouse Bar at Sydney’s UTS Broadway campus have been totally refurbished and reopened as the ‘ActivateMarketplace and Underground’  after months of construction.

The new ActivateUTS space has received more than just a physical makeover, with students encouraged to interact with it in a different way. “We see the Marketplace and Underground as creating a real student hub on campus, so students have a place to not only socialise but study after class,” said Angie Ruperto, communications and marketing manager for ActivateUTS.

Neschen wallpaper was used to produce a range of digitally printed wall coverings for the student union at UTS. The designers from Emily Ziz Style Studio were required to design and produce a range of bespoke images and murals as specified by clients Woods Bagot for their client, UTS. This consisted of a number of photographically created murals and designs each of which were produced for the various areas/ zones within the fit out. Unique layouts and print files were created for each area so that the design could be customized to specifically suit the space that they needed to be installed in and to ensure a seamless result in terms of pattern matching.

“More than 50% of the print run for this project was an exposed brick design so that when installed the area would appear to be built from bricks. The project budget did not allow for the installation of genuine brick and so the use of brick imagery onto wallpaper was the next best thing,” explained Emma from Emily Ziz. “We were also able to create other life like imagery on this substrate due to the high quality prints and large scale installations we could create. This included designs made to look like raw timber, concrete slabs, a jungle scene, winter/snow scenes and large super graphics of fresh produce.”

The range of wall coverings from Neschen were the number one choice as they passed the strict Australian standards that require any substrates used in commercial fit outs to be fire certified. All Neschen wallpaper products available from Starleaton (SDS) have been Group 1 certified in accordance with Specification A2.4 of the Building Code of Australia).
