Agfa's low-migration inks printing directly on food packaging

Agfa Graphics’ low-migration (LM) inkjet inks have been selected by the Belgian Federation for the Chemical Industry and Life Sciences as the winner of the ‘essenscia Innovation Award 2014’. The inks were recognized for their innovative strength and contribution to durable and sustainable packaging of food and beverages.

Agfa's low-migration UV-curable inkjet inks are designed primarily for printing directly on food packaging and on labels, blister foils, lids etc. for food and pharma packaging applications. These low-migration inks are based on specific chemical formulations, compliant with European guidelines on food package printing. They are able to deliver durable solutions and can be customized for specific packaging materials.

"As an innovator in the development of industrial UV inkjet, Agfa defines the most practical and efficient methods available for package printing," said Marc Graindourze, business development manager, Industrial Inkjet Inks. "Agfa has worked closely with end users, printhead manufacturers and packaging industry experts to launch the low-migration inks.”

Agfa Graphics takes a prominent position in the new segments of industrial inkjet. It designs, develops and manufactures high-performance inkjet inks and fluids for wide-format sign and display printing as well as for various forms of industrial inkjet printing applications. This innovative work on low migration inks is an example of Agfa's successful strategy to grow further in new business domains such as industrial inkjet and healthcare IT.
