Canon employees reconnect with nature

Taz Nakamasu kicks off Tree Day

Canon employees swapped their workstations for garden gloves to join the wave of fellow tree planters for Plant Ark’s National Tree Day.

Kicking off the planting for Tree Day celebrations at Canon headquarters was Taz Nakamasu, managing director of Canon Australia, joined by enthusiastic employees in Macquarie Park, who left the warmth of their office to find a patch of soil for their young seedlings.

Canon supported Planet Ark's National Tree Day by celebrating with its employees two days prior to the official planting day on Sunday, July 27.  The company is championing Planet Ark’s aim to provide all Australians with an opportunity to do something positive for the environment and reconnect with nature. Planet Ark works with councils, schools and community groups to help hundreds of thousands of Australians plant over one million native trees, shrubs and grasses.

“Each Canon employee will go home today with their own seedling to plant in their local community, whether at home, at work or as part of their local event. We have committed to plant over 1,000 native trees to support Planet Ark this year,” said Taz Nakamasu.

“At Canon, we are dedicated to supporting both our local community groups and the environment, and National Tree Day is a great campaign that we are thrilled to be supporting and this brings to life our ‘Kyosei’ philosophy of living and working together for the greater good. This year we have opted for both indoor and outdoor plants, increasing the prospect for seedlings to become established trees,” said Ian Flemington, general manager of HR and Communications, Canon.

Canon also provides its employees with the opportunity to get up close and personal with nature, through its High Performance Workplace in Macquarie Park, Sydney. Canon’s new headquarters feature grand nature-based images as well as shrubs and plants throughout the work stations, allowing air to be cycled naturally through the building.
