Herben, the innovators in numbering systems, introduce Herben Deckle Cutting Wheels. This great new product enables fancy deckle edge cutting using a system called 'crush-cutting' and is designed for Heidleberg GTO, MO, Speedmaster, Ryobi presses, free standing machines like Graphic Whizard and many others. The deckle edge cutting effect is achieved similarly to using a score or creasing wheel against a hard surface on heavy board material and applying extra pressure to 'crack' the fibre, without cutting it. The separation of the two parts is similar to that of perforated stock, without the problems any waste or cut material can create during final out-feed delivery in your press.
Fancy edge deckle cutting has a multitude of applications to produce amazing features for invitation cards, presentations folders, menus and countless other products, which can be enhanced with a deckle or other unique edge trim.
The crush cutting wheels can be placed in perforating wheel holders of commonly used sheet-fed offset printing presses, which have the ability to perforate or score stock against a hard surface. In some cases these might use a stainless steel cylinder jacket.
Herben designs and manufactures a range of these 'crush-cutting' wheels for nearly all presses or finishing machines. The most common size is 30mm outside diameter, 5mm wide. Naturally, all Herben Deckle wheels are made of high grade hardened steel to match the rest of the quality Herben range.

Since mechanical numbering equipment is in less demand due to laser, ink jet and other forms of numbering, Herben too have moved with the times offering some of these alternate methods of numbering. Perforating has also been a strong attraction with many unique Herben designs on various printing presses around the world. In more recent years with the onset of Digital printing, scoring (creasing) has been a real challenge due to stock 'cracking' problems. Herben can assure any digital printer that this issue has since been resolved
